It’s official!

Given that the airline tickets have been paid for, we can now announce that we will officially be at Geek Girl Con in Seattle, Oct. 19-20. Two-thirds of the Backup Ribbon Project will be there, as part of a panel on creating inclusive communities within the geek-o-sphere. And to answer your question: YES, there will be Backup Ribbons! We are incredibly excited for this opportunity to reach out to other women within the geek community.

Next up: Our interview for Krypton Radio with Dr. Rebecca Housel (aka “The Pop Culture Professor”) and Time Siren is now up. Here’s a link to a Quicktime audio file. We highly encourage people to check out Krypton Radio’s other offerings, including Time Siren’s show, Corsair’s Closet. “It’s Sci-Fi for Your Wi-Fi!”

We also have an update on our ad with Action Lab Entertainment, thanks to the machinations of our good friend Diva Lea, whose comics y’all should totally buy! Action Lab tells us that our ad will be in the relaunch of Princeless, Vol. 1 (due in November) and the Princeless Vol. trade. Princeless #1 is in previews this month for $1, so pre-order now at your favorite comic book store. Here’s what Princeless creator Jeremy Whitley has to say for himself.

And finally, we have made progress on our Backup Ribbon Quest to get ribbons out to some of the most influential people within the geek community. Again, kudos to Diva Lea for getting a ribbon to Dorktower creator John Kovalic. This strip is, of course, one of our favorites.

We are still looking to get Backup Ribbons to Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, and John Scalzi. Let us know if there are other big-name pros who have been a force for working on inclusive geekiness.

And…that’s all, folks!

Keep calm and, as always, Backup!

I’ll be at a convention at which Felicia will be in attendance. If I get the chance, I’ll mention it to her! I’ll also be wearing one…so….:)
